Amongst the huge orchid family, the phalaenopsis is one of the most characteristic; the aerial roots and the leafless flower stem make it instantly recognisable. I mount it on a simple wooden block.
The subtle colours are not any sort of surface coating; it is caused by heating the copper to particular temperatures and then quenching. The piece is then lacquered, excluding air, so that the colours will remain as you see them.
